Metro Atlanta Breast Cancer Angel Fund (MABCAF)
The MABCAF provides financial grants to assist socioeconomically challenged individuals undergoing treatment for breast cancer with expenses including, but not limited to, insurance co-pays, prescriptions, transportation to and from treatment, child/dependent relative care and basic living necessities such as utilities, rent and groceries. The program is facilitated by hospital social workers who identify breast cancer patients who are undergoing treatment and experiencing financial hardship. The social workers conduct needs assessment interviews and submit requests for assistance.
Hope for the Holidays
At the Thanksgiving and Christmas/Hanukkah holidays, we work with our volunteers and community partners to ensure that the socioeconomically challenged breast cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Georgia Center for Excellence at Grady Health System and their families can celebrate without worry. Through the years we have served over 700 patients, 600 children and 100 caregivers with this program. We provide financial and social support to these patients and their families by giving them grocery gift cards for Thanksgiving meals. Additionally, with the help of volunteers, we provide the patients with large holiday gift carts filled with toiletries, household necessities, gifts, gift cards and other items to help them celebrate during this time in their lives.
Companies and individuals interested in “adopting/shopping” for a current patient or becoming a sponsor for our Hope for the Holidays program should contact us.

Comfort Kits
Every newly diagnosed breast cancer patient at Georgia Center for Excellence at Grady Health System receives a “comfort kit” which we provide. These kits are designed with the patients in mind. They are full of items to help the patient with chemotherapy sessions and to let them know, they are not alone. The kits consist of:
Blanket- to help when they feel cold
Satin pillowcase- for when they start losing their hair
Pashmina scarf- to be used as a wrap or for head
Fuzzy socks- in place of slippers when at therapy
Water bottle- to help stay hydrated
Journal- to write down thoughts
Game book- to help pass the time
Lotion- to help the drying effects of chemo
Lip balm- to help with the chapping effects of chemo
Candy- assist with the metal taste
Tissues, pens, pencils, post-it notes
Something extra to help (cooling eye mask, nail kit, etc.)
All of this is put into a re-usable tote bag with a flyer telling them about our programs.
